My paintings are developed from ideas that I pursued through my interest in landscape and decay and particularly, rust. I am influenced by many artists, both past and present, through an interest and knowledge of art history. However, my themes and techniques can be transient and my inspiration can come from many sources although all my current work is based on landscape, either eclectic, worked on from direct observation or from imagination. I use traditional oil painting techniques but I also use acrylic paint and have developed techniques which integrate iron powder and iron filings. I am particularly fascinated by the different colours that can be attained by oxidation under various conditions.
